Why should every business train their staff in CPR and First Aid?

Despite the best efforts of prevention, any company’s staff can get hurt or sick.  The care that a person gets within the first few minutes of any health emergency can determine if a person survives, has a permanent disability, or recovers completely.  The advance preparation a business has done directly impacts the outcome, and how their staff thinks about them. It also provides significant cost savings. There is a real business case for doing this training.  

Consider two scenarios that could occur should a staff member become seriously hurt or sick.  

• The first  - Several staff members were properly trained, the company has some basic first aid equipment, and the employee receives proper care before professional responders arrive.  
  
• The second - no one knows what do, there is inadequate equipment, and there is a bad outcome.

In both cases, what does the staff think about the company and how it cares for its employees? If a person is able to return to work quickly medical costs are reduced, the need to re-hire and train mitigated, insurance costs can be reduced, and there are smiles all around when that person walks in the door. Return on investment is huge.
